20 days, 10 lessons

1. 4 wheels good, two legs bad.  Do not attempt to be a pedestrian if you value your life.

2. Give up trying to find the city centre. There probably isn’t one. But there is a Wendy’s and a drive in ice-cream parlour.

3. Gabriel Garcia Marquez did not appear to make it this far north.

4. There is much more to Costa Rica than fast food hell and frijoles. You just need to look for it.

5. A line of ants will appear from nowhere. And geckos appear to like reggae.

6. Neighbours come bearing gifts. Make sure you eat them (the gifts, not the neighbours).

7. Running along the highway in the middle of the day seems to be a popular past-time.

8. You should only cut your hair when the moon is waning.

9. The jungle is never far away in any direction. Ditto the beach.

10. The weather is not considered an interesting conversation. It’s always warm and sunny. What’s there to say?

The locals know best..

The Wendy’s 3/4lb Cheeseburger is one of the known wonders of the gastronomic world. A couple of those a day will sort you out.
